"Two independent Sellwood filmmakers were among 50 honored at the Northwest Film Center’s 36th annual NW Film & Video Festival, held in early November.

Short films by Noah Dorsey and Vincent Caldoni were selected from a field of 300, for the Portland event. Dorsey’s hand-drawn animation, “Nathan and Nordrich”, is a 19-minute murder/comedy.

The Festival showcases regional filmmakers whose short productions demonstrate overall merit in writing, acting, directing, and technical expertise. Portland has become increasingly attractive to Hollywood filmmakers, and it is significant that independent film and video productions are following their lead.

“Nathan and Nordrich”, Dorsey’s classically-made animation film, is his first official production. “I got serious about animation about five years ago, and dove right in, making music videos,” he says. “I learned by reading, and just trying things out. This is my first film: A no-funds, homemade effort — featuring a man reunited with his conjoined brothers. It involves murder, intrigue, and a lot of bad puns.

“The original music is by Portland composer Carlos Segovia. I performed most of the voices, and Ashley Miller colored all the frames on the computer.” Dorsey draws for relaxation and enjoyment. “I do some freelance animation, and am now working on a documentary about the honeybee crisis,” he says."
